Irma Introduces Vertically Grown Salads In Copenhagen

Coop Denmark has announced that it has introduced vertically grown salads in 35 large-format Irma stores in Copenhagen.

The retailer has teamed up with vertical farming company infarm for its latest offering – Crystal Salat (Crystal Salad) and Salat Trio (Salad Trio).

The latest rollout follows the success of store-grown herbs, introduced last year in all 69 Irma stores.

'Sustainability And Quality'

Irma chain director, Rikke Wolff, said, "With the latest launch of vertically grown vegetables, we continue the development of our collaboration with infarm and extend sustainability and quality to our customers.

"They have received the products well in the past year, precisely because they live up to the requirements of sustainable production and good taste."

The collaboration between Irma and infarm dates back to the end of 2019.

In 2020, infarm opened a larger production facility in Høje Tåstrup for sowing plants, which are transported by electric cars to grow directly in Irma stores.

'A Milestone'

Director of infarm, Daniel Kats, added, "Infarm's goal is to make locally produced fresh and sustainable products available to everyone everywhere.

"The collaboration with Irma and Coop has from the beginning been a milestone for infarm in the Nordics, and we look forward to expanding our production in Denmark."

Vegetables and herbs grown by infarm are free from pesticides and chemicals, consume 95% less water, and require 90% less transportation.
