Italy's Rio Mare Decreased Water Consumption By 7% In 2018

Italian tuna brand Rio Mare decreased water consumption by 7% at its Cermenate (CO) factory in 2018 compared to the previous year, with an overall water saving equivalent to 26 Olympic pools, reports Distribuzione Moderna.

The positive result is a part of the company's efforts to protect natural resources, and follows a series of eco-friendly steps taken by Rio Mare, including the use of 100% energy from renewable sources and recycling of waste.

The company's production site produces over 3.5 million cans of tuna every day.

The Italian tuna producer uses water in several steps of its production process, including the thawing of fish and sterilisation of cans, as well as for the use and cleaning of internal systems.

Sustainability Focus

Rio Mare has installed new systems and equipment enabling it to limit electricity consumption, demonstrating its commitment to sustainability and energy-saving.
