Jumbo To Donate Christmas Dinner To People In Need

Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced a collaboration with two charities to provide three-course Christmas dinners to tens of thousands of elderly people and struggling families.

Together with the Nationaal Ouderenfonds (National Elderly Fund) and Voedselbanken Nederland (Dutch Foodbanks), the retailer will donate meals to those facing difficult times over the holidays.

The dinners consists of an organic tomato soup, mashed potatoes, red cabbage with apples and stewed pears, an optional piece of meat, fish or vegetables, as well as a chocolate pudding dessert with cherries and whipped cream.

Family Traditions

“Christmas is a time for fun when we invite our loved ones to be together and enjoy good food and drinks,” said Colette Cloosterman-van Eerd, director of innovation at Jumbo supermarkets.

“Because we, as a family business, attach great importance to Christmas traditions, Jumbo will donate Christmas dinner packages this year full of great products for the fourth time.”

“For us, Christmas is really a moment for doing something special for someone else,” she added. “That's why it's nice that in this way we can do something for families who struggle financially or for elderly people who face a lonely Christmas."

Volunteer Effort

Corina Gielbert, director of the Nationaal Ouderenfonds, said: "Thanks to the efforts of our loving volunteers and the donated Christmas dinner packages from Jumbo, elderly people who normally are alone during the festive season can still look forward to a festive three-course dinner at many locations throughout the Netherlands.”

Leo Wijnbelt, chairman of Voedselbanken Nederland, added: "Our volunteers are working en masse to give families who are financially pressed a wonderful Christmas experience. Our volunteers are sharing lots of Christmas gift-packages with all the ingredients for a dinner and a Jumbo gift card, so that hundreds of families can enjoy a cheerful and atmospheric Christmas at home."
