Jumbo Launches Europe's First Retail Radio Station

Dutch retailer Jumbo has announced the launch of its own radio station, Jumbo Radio.

At present, Jumbo Radio can only be heard in the group's head office, distribution centre, and at its Jumbo Foodmarkt outlet in Veghel.

The move makes the retailer the first in the Netherlands and in Europe to have its own radio station.

In the coming months, the radio service will be extended to other Jumbo supermarkets. The retailer also plans to turn it into a fully-fledged radio station with DJs, music and live broadcasts from its studios in Veghel.

"The Power Of Radio"

CEO of Jumbo, Frits van Eerd, said, "Jumbo wants to make real fans of its customers. In our stores, their senses are constantly stimulated with taste, smell and colour. And from now on also with audio.

"We believe in the power of radio. Tasty music increases the atmosphere," Van Eerd added.

The radio station’s playlist, comprising cheerful, positive and pacy music, has been carefully prepared to include tracks that people want to hear in a supermarket.

Around 1,800 customers and employees were part of a study that attempted to understand their music preferences.

In August of this year, Jumbo Groep Holding posted a 3.8% increase in turnover in the first half of its financial year.
