Jumbo To Expand During October

Supermarket chain Jumbo is to expand during October with a further 14 new stores in the Netherlands, bringing its portfolio in the region to 373 stores.

The stores formerly opened by C1000 will undergo 'complete metamorphosis' to combine Jumbo's 'unique formula with the best elements of C1000', according to the retailer.

The new stores will offer a large variety of fresh products such as bread, vegetables, fruits, meats and cheeses.

"Thanks to the successful integration we can let more people know the unique Jumbo formula of the lowest price, the largest with C1000 range and best service. In October there will be as many as 14 new stores," Colette Cloosterman-of Eerd, director of innovation at Jumbo Supermarkets said.

"In these shops we enrich the Jumbo formula with the best elements of C1000. Customers can leverage the power of both formulas in a store."

According to the retailer, all employees of the C1000 stores will be employed at the revamped Jumbo stores.

With the acquisition of the C1000 banner in November 2011 and Super de Boer in 2009, Jumbo C1000 has become the second largest supermarket company in the Netherlands.
