Lidl Spain saw the biggest increase in market share in Spain during the first months of the year, according to Kantar Worldpanel. The retailer now holds 4 per cent of the Spanish national market, LaVanguardia reported.

Mercadona, Dia and Carrefour remain the leading supermarket groups in Spain. The three retailers have grown their market share compared to last year by around 0.1 and 0.2 per cent. Mercadona, registered growth from 22.7 per cent to 22.9 per cent,  Dia 8.5 per cent to 8.7 per cent, and Carrefour 8.3 per cent to 8.4 per cent.

Kantar Worldpanel has said that a reduction in fresh produce prices has made that total FMCG declined by 2.2% in Q1 of 2016.

The 'discount' sector was the only one that closed the Q1 with growth (4.8 per cent).
