'Le Carré Français' Fine Food Store Opens in Rome

A new fine food store has opened in Rome, promising French delicacies such as foie gras, goat's cheese, croissants and pain au chocolat.

'Le Carré Français' is a 600 m2 space on two floors located in Via Vittoria Colonna 30, in Rome’s central Prati district. It consists of a bistro, confectionery, bakery, cheese, butter and butcher department, a wine bar and a cold cut section.

The €1.5 million project is backed by a group of French artisans, including Michel Galloyer, who owns 29 boulangeries throughout France. After Rome, the idea is to expand the concept to other European capitals, with the aim of making the French culinary excellence accessible to all at an affordable price.

The back of the store has a take away section where customers can purchase tartare, foie gras, bread and cakes from the Brittany region. An exhibition space on the top floor of the bistro will be used to organize cultural events.

Besides targeting the local population and tourists, the store is also expected to attract the estimated 40,000 French who live in Rome.
