Lidl Celebrates 20 Years in Portugal

Lidl Portugal is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is marking the date with the launch of an ad campaign where music is the central element.

Starring Marisa Liz, lead singer of Amor Electro, and Luís Sequeira, the young and talented finalist from the program The Voice Portugal, the original song "celebrates the meeting of generations of tradition and modernity, over a period of two decades in Portugal".

The campaign has been recorded from north to south of the country, at iconic locations such as Elevator da Bica, Lisbon, Guincho, the Ria Formosa and the Douro, "a clear allusion to the path taken by Lidl over these 20 years".

The retailer currently has 239 stores and five logistic centers in Portugal and employs over 4,000 people. Since arriving in Portugal, Lidl has invested over €1 billion.

In recent months, Lidl has been implementing a reformulation of all of its stores, featuring a new image that is more modern and appealing.

The latest renovated spaces offer a self-service bakery area, where the customer has the possibility to choose their own bread, with all the comfort and hygiene. The stores also have better movement between sections and feature a new lighting system.

Lidl has also become the first large retailer in Portugal to make available contactless payments for customers, with benefit both in terms of increased speed and convenience.
