Maxima To Provide Work For Downtime Employees

Lithuanian retailer Maxima has announced that it will offer short-term employment opportunities to people experiencing downtime due to the coronavirus outbreak in the country.

People can take up these roles with Maxima while maintaining a contractual relationship with their existing employers, the retailer said.

'Show Solidarity'

Chief human resources officer at Maxima Latvija, Gunita Kiesnere, said, “Seeing the extent to which the emergency affects many Latvian companies and their employees, as well as the government's limited ability to provide support to anyone, we decided to show solidarity with those in difficulty and to speak to employees experiencing downtime.

“We are offering job opportunities at this difficult time, with the opportunity to return to your industry as soon as the situation returns to normal.”

Maxima is looking for additional staff to carry out shelving, ordering, shipping, and courier services for the Barbora online store, the retail giant said in a statement.
