Metro Cash & Carry in Germany is to sell its online wine shop, metro-wein.de to German e-tailer Weinvorteil on 1 June.
Metro launched the online wine banner at the end of 2011 and it was expected to be a successful venture for the Cash & Carry. However, Metro have been reported as saying that the online store 'as a special interest offer does not play a major role but ties up capacity which we will concentrate on our core business in the future'. Metro now look set to focus efforts on their nationwide delivery service, which was launched in 2009.
