Morrisons To Be Sued By Staff And Ex-Employees: Reports

More than 2,000 of members of Morrisons’ staff and ex-staff are reportedly set to take out a lawsuit against the company, after their personal details were compromised through a cyber leak, theindependent.co.uk reports.

Employees’ salaries, bank account information and national insurance numbers were made freely available on the internet by Andrew Skelton, a 'rogue' company auditor. He was sentenced to eight years behind bars in July 2015 for committing the crime.

In total, the incident affected about 100,000 Morrisons workers.

Nick McAleenan, the lawyer representing the staff, told the paper, "My clients' position is that Morrisons failed to prevent a data leak that exposed tens of thousands of its employees to the very real risk of identity theft and potential loss."

“Whenever employers are given personal details of their staff, they have a duty to look after them,” he added.

Morrisons said that it does not plan to contest this case. "We are not accepting liability for the actions of a rogue individual. We can confirm that we are not aware that anybody suffered any financial loss from this breach.”
