Poll Gives Thumbs Down to Olympic Sales

Retailers in London are gearing up for an expected sales surge with the start of the Olympic Games this Friday, 27 July. Embracing the theme, four John Lewis stores have been 'wrapped' in giant Olympic Games banners and Tesco has set up a pop-up store in East London which will be open for the duration of the Paralympic Games.

Despite this, the influential British magazine, Retail Week, is currently running an online poll asking "Do you expect an Olympic sales boost?" At the time of writing, 33 per cent had said 'yes', with a surprising 67 per cent of pollers voting 'no'. (25 Jul)
