REWE Group has announced its results for full-year 2012, posting a modest 2.7 per cent increase in sales to €49.7 billion. The German retail group said its home market provided growth of 2.4 per cent, while its foreign operations saw 3.6 per cent turnover growth.
REWE Konzern (excluding independent retailers and at-equity companies) had sales growth of 3.1 per cent to €41.6 billion, with EBITDA of €1.2 billion.
The group's full-range formats saw revenue increase 5 per cent to €15.9 billion in Germany, with a 2 per cent rise in its international business, totalling €9 billion. Discount banner Penny saw like-for-like sales growth of 3.5 per cent, to €6.8 billion, at home, while internationally, the chain delivered a 6.2 per cent rise to €3.9 billion.
2013 will see the group invest some €1.5 billion in the modernisation and expantion of the store networks of REWE and Billa, as well as in the repositioning of Penny in Germany, said group CEO Alain Caparros.
At the end of 2012, REWE Group operated 15,538 stores, 10,842 of which are in Germany. (14 March)
