Rewe Introduces Organic Coffee Capsules To Assortment

German retailer Rewe has added organic coffee capsules developed by My-CoffeeCup to its assortment.

The new capsules have been developed from renewable raw materials instead of environmentally harmful aluminium and plastic.

Moreover, they fit in the same coffee machines as conventional capsules.

“My-CoffeeCup [is a brand that] coffee lovers can enjoy with a clear conscience, without burdening the environment,” said Hans-Jürgen Moog, purchasing manager at Rewe.

'Stop Alu! Stop Plastic!'

My-CoffeeCup, a brand owned by coffee- and tea-capsule maker UniCaps, has also launched a TV campaign with the slogan 'Stop Alu! Stop Plastic!', which highlights the impact that used coffee capsules can have on the environment.

“In Germany, consumption of conventional coffee capsules causes up to 10,000 tonnes of plastic and aluminium waste a year, which is only partly recycled,” said Dirk Tillmann, CEO of UniCaps. “Our My-CoffeeCup organic capsules are fully biodegradable, and our customers only enjoy top-quality, certified, organically grown coffee.”

Customers can find My-CoffeeCup organic coffee in all Rewe stores, in three variants: Lungo Bellissimo, Lungo Caffe Crema and Caffe Caramel.
