Russian Retailer Dixy Records First Half Growth

Dixy Group, one of Russia's leading retailers, has announced year-on-year revenue growth of 23.3% to RUR87.4 billion (21.8% in USD to $2.8 billion) for the first six months of 2013.

The retailer operated for two days less during the first six months of 2013 compared to the same period in 2012. Dixy attributed the loss of days to the closure of stores on New Year's Day, 1 January 2013 (open on 1 January 2012) and to the extra day of store operation in February 2012 owing to the Leap Year which fell during that month.

According to Dixy Group, the two-day difference affected the company's revenue growth for the first six months by 1.4% year-on-year. 'Thus, the revenue growth for the first six months of 2013 adjusted for the two-day difference would be 24.7% year-on-year in rubles', the Group said.

Dixy opened 133 stores and closed 25 stores during the first six months of 2013, bringing the store portfolio to a total of 1607 outlets as of 30 June 2013, including 1496 Dixy neighborhood stores, 80 Victoria stores, 30 compact MegaMart and MiniMart hypermarkets and one cash store.

The retailer opened its first store in Moscow in 1999 and now operates in the Central, Northwest and Urals federal districts of Russia, and in the Kaliningrad region. The company, employing over 36,000 people, is the third largest national food retailer by revenue, selling area, and number of stores.
