Sales Rise 5% At Leclerc

Sales at French supermarket chain E.Leclerc grew 5 per cent to around €14 billion (excluding fuel sales) in the first half of this year; if fuel sales are included, the increase was 8.38 per cent to €17.8 billion. This is despite an average supplier cost increase of around 2.4 per cent, the company noted.

Leclerc reiterated its goals to focus on lower priced items, to develop speciality stores for non-food items (including drugstores) and focus on new retail patterns, such as 'Drive'.

According to figures from Kantar Worldpanel, Leclerc's market share increased 0.6 per cent in June, to leave the retailer with 17.7 per cent of the total market share. (18 Jul)
