Sligro, Jumbo Reports Strong FY Sales Growth

 

Dutch grocery giant Sligro has posted strong sales growth for 2011; overall sales at the group rose by 5.9 per cent to €2.42 billion and like-for-like sales rose by 3.7 per cent. Sales at Sligro’s food division rose by 10 per cent to €811 million while sales at its food service sector increased by 3.9 per cent to €1.61 billion. Sligro currently has 130 supermarkets in operation.

Meanwhile, Dutch grocer Jumbo experienced a 40 per cent sales increase at its stores for the full fiscal year 2011. Sales were recorded at €2.45bn at Jumbo stores while its group sales were €3.23 billion for 2011. Jumbo also saw a 2.5% rise in organic sales.  “It is almost unbelievable what we have achieved in 2011, said Jumbo chief executive Frits van Eerd. “Record sales, the conversion of some 90 shops and the proposed acquisition of C1000”. The group increased its number of stores to 263 in 2011, an increase from 174 in the previous year. (10 Jan)
