SPAR Introduces Faireswiss Milk In Switzerland To Support Dairy Farmers

SPAR has announced that it has introduced Faireswiss milk to all 180 stores across Switzerland.

The move, which expands the sales channel of the product, aims to help dairy farmers earn a fair purchase price of CHF1.00 per litre of milk.

Until recently, Faireswiss milk was mostly available in western Switzerland, SPAR said.

The product is available in two variants - UHT full and partially skimmed - in Tetra Edge packaging, priced at CHF1.90 per litre.

The Faireswiss Project

In 2019, the Faireswiss project was launched in Switzerland to enable local dairy farmers to earn a decent living.

SPAR is supporting the project by waiving part of the sales margin to finance the surcharge on the normal production price, the retailer added.

The selling price of a litre of Faireswiss milk at SPAR is slightly higher compared to that of milk from traditional sources.

Over the past two decades, the price producers receive for milk has steadily declined in Switzerland, while production costs have remained the same.
