Study Finds Leading Hygiene Brands 99.9% Effective Against COVID-19

A new study, published in the American Journal of Infection Control, has found that the active ingredients in many leading hygiene brands are 99.9% effective against the COVID-19 virus.

The study, the first to explore the viricidal efficacy of personal care and surface cleaning and disinfection products against the coronavirus, tested the active ingredients in a number of household brands.

It found that all microbicidal actives are effective at inactivating COVID-19, demonstrating a reduction of infectious virus within the tested one to five minutes.

“Our hope is that these findings will be useful to the infection prevention and control community in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic," commented Dr Bruce Charlesworth, chief medical officer at Reckitt Benckiser, which published the findings of the study on its website.

"This is a positive development and is fully consistent with our expectations. We will continue to develop scientific evidence to support our product portfolio to enable effective, science-led communication around hygiene.”
