Sweden's Axfood Names Karin Hedlund As Its New IT Head

Swedish retailer Axfood has announced the appointment of Karin Hedlund as its new head of IT, effective 1 November.

She succeeds Jan Lindmark, who has decided to retire after 20 years at Axfood.

Hedlund will be responsible for the company’s IT operations and strategy as well as its extensive IT development plan.

She will also be a member of Axfood’s executive committee, the company added.

'A Strong Leader'

President and CEO of Axfood, Klas Balkow, welcomed Hedlund to the company and added, "Karin Hedlund is a strong leader who has the required experience and knowledge to take us to the next level within IT together with her colleagues.

"In an industry that is evolving fast, Axfood’s IT agenda consists of everything from operations and systems to the new highly automated logistics centre that we are now building in Bålsta just outside Stockholm, as well as new technology and development within digital customer meetings and work approach."

An Experienced Professional

Hedlund is an experienced professional, who, most recently, served as the Head of IT (CIO) at Lantmännen for more than seven years.

Before joining Lantmännen, she was part of Ericsson and Accenture in several leading roles.

She also spent seven years as a development manager at Axfood IT.

Develop 'Digital Solutions'

Commenting on her new position, Hedlund said, ”It feels fantastic and inspiring to be back at Axfood after ten years in other positions and companies.

"Axfood is well ahead in terms of IT, and together with all new and old colleagues, I look forward to continuing to develop Axfood’s digital solutions, operations and work approach and together continuously develop Axfood’s successful customer offering."
