British retail giant Tesco is to introduce an at-checkout price-matching scheme in its UK stores which gives shoppers a voucher covering the price difference if their basket would have cost less at a rival supermarket.
At the checkout, the prices of both branded and private label products are compared with competitors Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons. If shopping at a rival would have been cheaper, customers will be provided with a voucher of the difference in price, up to £10 to be redeemed in any Tesco store or online up to 28 days after it is issued.
Following an ongoing trial in Northern Ireland since November the scheme will be launched in the UK on 11 March. It is part of the retailer's Price Promise programme and complements the receipt-checking tool for online shoppers. (4 March)
