Tesco's General Merchandise Director Resigns

Struggling British supermarket chain Tesco has lost another executive from its management team. Neela Mukherjee, general merchandise director at Tesco’s UK operations, resigned from her post this month.

It is rumoured that her departure followed the recent management shake-up where Robin Terrell, group multichannel director, took over responsibility of Tesco’s general merchandise and grocery Internet shopping operations.

Mukherjee held the position of general merchandise director since late 2012. She had previously worked for Tesco’s online section, as well as in Malaysia.

A spokesperson for the retailer said, “Neela has decided to pursue her career outside of Tesco. She made a significant contribution in her 12 years at Tesco, both internationally and here in the UK.”

Industry analysts have commented on how Tesco is doing in general merchandise, with the company struggling to grow sales. The company is not in good stead right now, according to one analyst, adding that it is “certainly not helping itself” with the decisions that it is making.
