Tesco CEO, Philip Clarke, admitted "we have only just begun, we have a long, long way to go", at the opening of Tesco's newly-renovated 42,000 square feet store in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire yesterday (24 Sept). Clarke is to spend £1 billion overhauling the reatiler's main UK business with more staff dedicated to fresh food and the roll-out of new own brand products such as the Everyday Value range.
"Food is first", maintained UK boss Chris Bush, with 8 per cent more space given to fresh produce in the refurbished store. The British retailer is being led by its hugely succesful Clubcard loyalty scheme, created by Dunnhumby, to reconfigure the range and space layout of each store. (25 Sept)
