Waitrose Appoints Paul Walker As Head Of Fresh Buying

UK retailer Waitrose has appointed Paul Walker as its new head of all fresh buying, starting 9 October.

He will combine his current role, as director of fresh buying, with the duties of Heather Jenkins, who is leaving the company after 37 years.

Walker will now be responsible for the buying of meat, poultry, fish, frozen food and dairy, in addition to his existing duties as head of fruit, vegetables, horticultural produce, bakery and food-to-go solutions.

“I am excited to take on this role and, backed by a fantastic team here at Waitrose, looking forward to working with our suppliers, farmers and others,” said Walker.

Waitrose commercial director Rupert Thomas added that Walker is "exactly the right person" to develop the company's agricultural strategy, and thanked Heather Jenkins for "building fantastic relationships with the farming community and helping us to lead the grocery sector in this area”.
