Waitrose Sales Up 1.2% Due To Bank Holiday Weather

UK retailer Waitrose has said that total sales increased by 1.2% last week compared to the same period in 2016, which it attributes to the good weather over the bank holiday weekend.

This continues the retailer's strong summer performance, as sales also increased by 4% the previous week.

Warm Weather Trends

Waitrose said that al fresco dining options were popular last week, with sales of food to go increasing by 16%, salads and sandwiches up by 15%, and snacking fruit products up 31%.

Sales of beers, wine and spirits experienced significant increases. Top performing products included sparkling wine which was up by 21%, speciality beer (+24%), Pimms (+55%), and Aperol (+70%).

In addition, sales of sun care products grew by 35%, and gardening products by 17%.
