Rewe Group Opens Its 50th 'Green Building'

Rewe Group has opened its 50th energy-saving building, in Teltow, near Berlin, in Germany. The store opened on 20 July 2016.

Rewe Group designed the new store on the principles of sustainability. Its pilot-project Green Building opened six years ago, in Berlin-Rudow.  It was awarded a gold label by the German Society for sustainable building, the DGNB.

Through a combination of the best-available insulation, a photovoltaic system using cylindrical modules to collect sunlight on a 360-degree surface, and the most efficient heating, lighting and refrigeration systems, these Green Buildings can save over 40% more energy than standard buildings.

So far, over 130 Green Building projects have been developed, or are currently in the planning phase. Rewe Group is aiming to have halved its 2006 level of CO2 emissions by 2022.
