Romania’s Mega Image To Continue Expansion In 2018
Romania’s Mega Image opened more stores this year than in 2016, adding 50 new outlets to its portfolio, with plans to continue expanding in 2018.
Speaking to Ziarul Financiar, CEO Vassilis Stavrou said that Mega Image has an investment budget of €50 million for next year, and plans to open between 50 and 60 new Mega Image supermarkets and Shop & Go neighbourhood stores.
He revealed that the company saw a number of positive growth trends in 2017, as the number of shopper visits increased, as well as the value of their baskets.
Stavrou added that net turnover in 2017 is expected to surpass €1 billion.
Mega Image is the second largest grocery retailer in Romania in terms of stores after Profi. The supermarket chain, owned by Ahold Delhaize, currently operates 573 stores.
Earlier this month, Mega Image opened its first 'Mega Apetit' store in Bucharest’s Plaza Romania shopping mall, dedicated to its private label brand of ready meals and food to go.
Also in December, the retailer launched its own online store, offering delivery and click-and-collect grocery services in the capital city.
