Sainsbury's Revises Loyalty Card Scheme: Reports

Sainsbury's loyalty card system has just become less generous in terms of points-distribution to consumers, according to a report in the UK's Observer.

The UK retailer's Nectar Card, which previously offered two points for every pound spent, will only offer a single point moving forward.

Furthermore, consumers no longer have the same impetus to bring their own bags to shop, as reward points are not to be allotted for this green practice in the future.

The Observer wished to ascertain to what extent the system revisions will affect shoppers' loyalty. One of those interviewed, John Salt, said, “Rather than exchanging for offers that Sainsbury['s] promote we decided, and have for a number of years, to save the points we accrued during each year and use them each Christmas.

“Sadly, in future this yearly event may not be as much fun as it used to be given the reduced allocation from our weekly trip.

"Where we live there is currently an Aldi under construction. We may be quite tempted to forfeit our Nectar points and join the refugees from the higher end stores who are trying the Aldi or Lidl experience."
