Sainsbury’s To Support IGD And Wrap's Food Waste Reduction Roadmap

UK-based supermarket chain Sainsbury’s has announced its support for the new Food Waste Reduction Roadmap, formulated by the IGD and Wrap.

The move will enable the retailer to cut down food waste by collaborating with fellow UK retailers, food producers, manufacturers, hospitality and foodservice companies, which share similar goals.

Collaborating With Stakeholders

Director of Sainsbury’s Brand, Judith Batchelar, commented, “This Roadmap is an important implementation to ensure businesses across the UK act consistently, while continuing to make progress towards the global UN SDG Target 12.3.

“There are some ambitious milestones in here and we’re fully committed to working together with our suppliers and customers to continue to drive progress and ensure we hit our targets,” Batchelar added.

The company is already a part of the Cortauld 2025 – a voluntary agreement to make food and drink production and consumption more sustainable.

Sainsbury's has also implemented new technologies that allow real-time tracking and management of stocks. This has helped in identifying specific areas of food wastage and enabled it to take corrective measures.
