Screwcapped Wines Debunk Ageing Myth

According to a blind tasting undertaken at Vinitaly 2015 - the international exhibition for wine and spirits held in Verona - a number of screwcapped Australian wines were found to have aged successfully.

The results represent a debunking of the notion that wines not sealed with cork cannot reach the upper echelons of quality.

This so-called prejudice is thought to be more prevalent in Italy than in many new-world wine nations, and thus that the findings occurred in the Veneto adds a certain dramatic edge to proceedings.

The Australian red wines to be lauded at the event were Henschke Hill made by Grace Shiraz (2004), Cullen Diana Madeline's Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot (both 2004 and 2005), Yalumba's The Signature Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz (2003), and Brokenwood Rayner's Shiraz (2001).
