Shoprite Opens 14 New Stores In South Africa
African retail group Shoprite has announced the opening of fourteen new stores across six different provinces in South Africa.
The new stores are positioned in areas not previously served by the company's supermarkets, or in those showing strong population growth.
The group has already opened 72 supermarkets in 2017, and plans to continue this expansion next year, with 82 new Shoprite, Checkers, Checkers Hyper, Usave and LiquorShop supermarkets scheduled to open in the 2018 financial year.
“Over the past year 2.4% more customers voted with their feet and wallets to buy at our stores and we processed over 1 billion transactions," said Pieter Engelbrecht, Shoprite CEO.
"This proves that we are giving our customers what they need at prices they can afford.”
Last month, Shoprite reported full-year earnings in line with analyst estimates, as revenue rose by 8.4%. The company operates over 2,000 outlets in 15 countries across Africa.
