Smurfit Kappa Begins Construction Of New Boiler In Austria

Packaging giant Smurfit Kappa has commenced the construction of a new recovery boiler  with a ground-breaking ceremony in its Nettingsdorf Paper Mill in Austria.

The ceremony was presided over by the governor of Upper Austria and the mayor of Ansfelden.

The move forms part of the company’s €134 million investment in Nettingsdorf, and will increase the profitability and sustainability of the unit.

The boiler will cut down CO2 emissions by 40,000 tonnes in the paper mill, the company said.

“Sustainable Business”

The recovery boiler is a part of the company’s Future Energy Plant project, which also intends to develop a new steam turbine in the next two years.

“This investment will enable us to ensure a long-term supply of high-quality, sustainable containerboard - something our customers have come to expect from us.”

Founded in 1851, Nettingsdorf is one of Smurfit Kappa’s most efficient paper mills, with an annual output of approximately 450,000 tonnes of paper.
