Spanish Confectionery Sector Grew 2.8% In 2015

The Spanish confectionery sector registered an increase in sales of 2.8 per cent in 2015, reaching €4.6 billion. The increase confirms a clear indication of recovery in the sector since the post-2008 recession.

The figures were obtained from a report by the Spanish Association of Sweets (Produlce). The sector also grew in volume, with an increase of 2 per cent and over 1.3 million tonnes produced, expansion.com reports.

Sales of sweets in Spain account for 0.43 per cent of the country's GDP and confectionery is the seventh biggest-selling food category, comprising 5 per cent of total sales, and the fifth in terms of exports.

Regarding exports, an increase of 4.1 per cent was registered, reaching €1.2 billion, while also increasing in terms of volume and unit sales.
