Netto Looking To Double Its Swedish Stores Over The Next Decade

Netto is looking to double its store presence in Sweden over the course of the next decade. The retailer currently has 157 stores in operation in the country.

The news follows on from UK retailer Sainsbury's and Netto's parent company Dansk Supermarked having announced the termination of their joint venture, which has seen 16 Netto test stores open across the UK since 2014.

Netto UK was launched by Sainsbury's and Dansk Supermarked to test the viability of a new discount chain entering the British market.

The UK stores are expected to close in August.

Speaking on plans for expanding its presence in the Swedish market, Bent Holm, managing director of Netto Sweden, has said that the company has a very aggressive investment plan in Sweden where it sees great potential.

"Next year we will open 10 new stores and then the goal is 15 new stores per year."

He said that he sees "no obstacles" to Netto Sweden reaching the same size as it is in Denmark.

While discount is relatively new in the country, the Swedes are "getting used to the concept", he added.
