Aldi Suisse Introduces 'Fair Milk' To Support Local Farmers

Aldi Suisse has said that it will become the first grocery retailer in Switzerland to sell 'fair milk', supporting local agriculture and promoting high quality products.

The Fair Milk scheme is the result of a collaboration between Aldi Suisse, Protezione Svizzera degli Animali (Swiss animal protection) and dairy company Cremo. The goal is to ensure fair conditions for breeders, animals, and consumers.

Fair Standards

Animals under the Fair Milk programme are bred according to the standards defined by two federal programs regarding livestock housing systems and regular outdoor movement. In addition, the project's guidelines ensure that animals go outdoors even in the winter for at least 26 days a month.

For its part, Aldi Suisse will guarantee breeders a fair price of €0.70 per kilo of milk. In Switzerland, the average price of milk for breeders is currently around €0.52.

By purchasing Fair Milk products, consumers can choose to engage in greater animal welfare and help local breeders. The milk will be available at CHF 1.49 per litre.
