President and chief executive of buying group Euromadi, Jaime Rodriguez has revealed to infoRetail that the association has convinced Auchan’s Spanish businesses to join as full members.
Auchan’s Spanish subsidiaries, Alcampo and Simply, have been working with the buying group since January 2015, when they handed over management for the purchasing of 3,500 private label products to Euromadi Spain.
The two retailers are now set to become full members within the alliance from March 1 of this year.
As full members, Alcampo and Simply will be able to purchase a range of branded goods, including grocery and health and beauty products, through Euromadi Spain. However, Auchan Spain will continue to manage purchasing fresh products.
The agreement will also bring Euromadi’s aggregate buying power from all of its members to over €18 billion.
