Carrefour Bio Opens First Store In Brussels

Carrefour has opened its first Carrefour Bio store in Belgium, in the municipality of Woluwe-Saint-Lambert in Brussels.

Commenting on the new opening, the general secretary of Carrefour Belgium, Geoffroy Gersdorff, said, "Carrefour wants to support its customers towards a healthier, sustainable and responsible consumption.

"Thanks to the commitments of Act for Food, Carrefour aims to make the best access to all and to become the leader in the food transition," he added.

Organic Products

The store, spread across an area of 200 square-metres, will offer nearly 3,000 organic SKUs.

These include pasta, legumes, cereals, dried fruit, tea, coffee, candies, biscuits, and chocolate chips.

The store's organic cheese counter offers 22 different references including Tomme, Roquefort, Gorgonzola, Gouda, and goat's cheese.

The bakery section offers a wide range of organic bread and pastries.

The retailer intends to give preference to products of Belgian origin and has partnered with Tambourine Farm and BONJOUR Maurice to achieve this target.

Presently, around 100 SKUs in the store are of Belgian origin.

Eco-Friendly Packaging

Fruit and vegetables in the new store are offered without any packaging, in line with the retailer's commitment to making 100% of its packaging for own-brand products recyclable.

For bulk purchases, the store has introduced free paper bags, and paid cloth bags and glass jars in five sizes.

Meat is sold in 100% recyclable cardboard boxes in the store.

Customers have the option to refill detergent bottles with the help of the Ecover reloading station designed by Jean Bouteille.
