Italian Inflation Increased In February: Istat

Italian inflation increased by 1.1% in February compared to the same month last year and by 0.2% compared to January, according to Istat, the Italian statistics institute.

The acceleration in inflation is due to the increase of the price of food goods, non-regulated energy goods (from 0.3% to 0.8%) and tobacco (from 2.9% to 4.5%).

However, this dynamic is partly mitigated by the slowdown in the price of transport services (from 2.2% to 0.9%) and communication services, Istat said.

The price of an average shopping cart (including food, household care and personal-care goods), increased by a rate of 2.1% in February, compared to 0.6% in January, the study found.

Istat's research also revealed that overall goods inflation grew from 0.7% in January to 1.5% in February, while services inflation decreased from 1.1% to 0.7%.
