Kaufland Pork Now Certified GMO-Free, Retailer Says

Kaufland has reported that 18 of its pork products are now certified GMO-free, and bear the official 'Ohne Gentechnik' ('Without GMO') seal from the group Verbandes Lebensmittel ohne Gentechnik e.V. (VLOG).

"We offer our customers high-quality meat, and the fact that pork is now VLOG certified is a logical and important step towards even more quality, sustainability and transparency," said Kaufland's animal welfare expert, Clemens Dirscherl.

GMO-Free

The seal ensures that the product doesn't contain any genetically modified components.

In the case of pork, this includes the requirement for farmers to feed their animals strictly with non-GMO food during the fattening period, whereby they have to observe strict rules.

After checking the fulfilment of all applicable criteria, VLOG has awarded Kaufland products with this seal.

Wide Range

Kaufland offers around 700 products with the 'Ohne Gentechnik' seal and plans to expand the number of GMO-free products that it offers, in order to promote sustainable husbandry and farming practices.

Moreover, the pork fulfils high requirements for responsible agriculture, including partnerships with farmers, fair pay, and high standards of animal welfare – for example, 40% more space.

The certified meat is now available at all meat counters across the Kaufland portfolio.
