Germany's Kaufland Launches 'Außenklima'-Certified Pork

German retailer Kaufland has announced that it has introduced pork with Außenklima(Outdoor Climate)-certification by Haltungsform - an organisation that promotes animal welfare.

The certification means that the pork is sourced from livestock reared on farms that provide 40% more space to animals than required by German laws.

The pigs are fed on a GMO-free diet and have access to outdoor space.

'Animal-Friendly' Meat

Stefan Rauschen, managing director of fresh purchases at Kaufland, said, "Many of our customers like to enjoy a nice piece of meat, but want to be sure that it comes from an animal-friendly [source]."

In the refrigerated section, the Außenklima-certified pork is part of Kaufland's newly launched private-label range K-favourites.

The variants include pork mince, pork schnitzel, pork loin, and pork belly.

In the meat service counters, Kaufland's 'Wertschätze' pork has acquired the certification.
