More Latvians Are Opting For Local Fruit and Vegetables, Says Maxima

Sales of locally grown fruit and vegetables saw a 10% year-on-year increase in Maxima stores in the second quarter of its financial year, according to the retailer's latest sales figures.

Head of business analytics at Maxima Latvija, Zane Kaktiņa, said, "We are pleased to report that Latvians are increasingly selecting healthier products. We see that shoppers also value our partnerships with local producers and farmers, and our increased range of local produce."

Popular Products

In terms of purchasing habits, Latvian shoppers opt for both local and overseas produce, Maxima said.

Potatoes, onions, carrots, tomatoes and Latvian country cucumbers emerged as the five most popular vegetables in the period, the retailer said.

Bananas, apples, small mandarins, oranges, and watermelons were the most popular fruits, meanwhile.

Customers were inclined to buy fruit and vegetables in larger Maxima stores, data from the list of the top 10 most-purchased products revealed.
