Lidl Denmark Adds Biogas-Powered Trucks To Its Fleet

Lidl Denmark has announced that it has added two new biogas-powered trucks to its fleet for transporting refrigerated goods.

The new trucks will join the retailer's food distribution network, transporting goods from the logistics centre in Køge to stores across Sjælland.

Another Step In The Right Direction

Commenting on the new trucks, chief operating officer, Marcus Gustafsson, said, "At Lidl, we have a keen focus on our sustainability strategy in logistics, and we already have a truck utilising green technology in operation.

"With the two new trucks, however, we think we are taking another step in the right direction and there is no doubt that we will continue along that path. Sustainability is a deliberate and targeted strategy at Lidl."

The trucks are equipped with cryotechnology, which makes them 97% CO2 neutral compared to a traditional diesel-powered refrigeration truck.

The technology uses liquid CO2 for cooling, which results in cutting emissions from compressors by up to 15 tonnes in contrast with a diesel-powered refrigeration system.

The noise emitted by a CO2-powered refrigeration truck is below 60 dB, making it suitable for operating at night.

'Climate-Friendly' Trucks

Head of logistics at Lidl, Allan Nielsen, said, "Scania Danmark has met all our requirements and built two top professional refrigeration conveyors. The primary focus has been on making the trucks as climate-friendly as possible.

"In addition, we have also focused on making the trucks quiet, so that they can distribute goods to our stores at times when we least bother others."

The trucks were built in collaboration with Scania Danmark and Igloocar Danmark, while KH One Stop supplied the cryo-cooling technology.
