SPAR has announced that it has acquired the Hungarian meat company Zimbo Perbál. The acquisition will strengthen the retail giant’s position in the domestic meat market.
SPAR will retain all 200 staff members of the plant and rename it to Regnum meat plant Perbál.
It plans to modernise the facility located on the outskirts of Budapest and upgrade it to ISO 22000 standards.
'High-Quality Food Products'
CEO of SPAR Hungary, Gabriella Heiszler, said, “SPAR aims to offer its customers high-quality food products made as much as possible from Hungarian ingredients. Due to the increased demand for meat and meat products, we have decided to expand our production capacity.
"By acquiring the plant in Perbál, SPAR can increase its production capacity, and at the same time keep high-quality standards in mind. This strengthens our position on the domestic meat market."
All SPAR stores across Hungary will sell meat and meat products manufactured in the Regnum meat plant.
Innovative Technologies
The retailer will synchronise production processes at Perbál with its meat plant in Bicske and integrate innovative technologies for better production.
Ferenc Horváth, managing director of SPAR Hungary’s meat plant, added, “The plant in Perbál became operational under the SPAR Brand on 2 November. The number of employees in SPAR’s meat production division will increase by 200 to a total of 600.
“Last year, we produced 40,000 tonnes of meat products. Through this acquisition, we will expand our capacity significantly from 2021 onwards.”
