Walmart Launches New Membership Programme, Walmart+

US retailer Walmart has announced that it has launched a new membership programme that brings together the benefits of shopping in-store and online.

The Walmart+ programme aims to help customers save time and money by offering unlimited free deliveries, scan and go shopping facilities and fuel discounts.

Fuel discounts will be available at nearly 2,000 Walmart, Murphy USA and Murphy Express fuel stations and the retailer plans to add Sam’s Club fuel stations to the lineup shortly.

Members will also have access to existing customer offerings such as Walmart’s free curbside pickup, NextDay delivery and two-day delivery, the company added.

'The Ultimate Life Hack'

Janey Whiteside, chief customer officer at Walmart, commented, “Customers know they can trust us and depend on us, and we’ve designed this programme as the ultimate life hack for them.

“Walmart+ will bring together a comprehensive set of benefits where we see the greatest needs of our customers and where our scale can bring solutions at an unprecedented value.”

Walmart will also continue its 'per-delivery' transaction fee feature so that customers have the option to choose the service that best suits them.

Highlights Of The Programme

Along with online presence, Walmart+ will be available in more than 4,700 stores, including 2,700 outlets that offer same-day delivery.

The annual fee for Walmart+ membership is $98 a year, while monthly membership is priced at $12.95.

Membership will be available to all customers on 15 September and it includes a 15-day free trial period, the company added.

Whiteside added, “We know shopping should fit customers’ needs, not the other way around. We have always been a champion for the right item at the right price, but now it’s more than that. We have the right shopping solutions at the right time, too.”

The company plans to add more benefits for members in terms of services and offerings in the future.
