Sweden's ICA Sees Sales Up 5.4% In January

Swedish retailer ICA has posted a 5.4% increase in sales in January, compared to the same month the previous year.

Sales totalled SEK 10.3 billion for the month (€1.02 billion). ICA said that like-for-like sales were also up 5.4% for the month.

In terms of the performance of the group's various banners, ICA said that its large-scale Maxi ICA Stormarknad arm saw a 9.2% increase in sales (+8.2% like-for-like).

Its ICA Kvantum business was up 4.2% (+4.7% like-for-like), ICA Supermarket saw a 2.1% increase (+2.2% like-for-like), and its ICA Nära convenience arm was up 5.8% (+7.4% like-for-like).

ICA Gruppen estimated the calendar effect for January to be -1.4%. As of the end of the month, the number of ICA stores in operation was 1,266.
