Aldi To Introduce Nutri-Score Labelling In Switzerland

Aldi Suisse plans to launch introduce the Nutri-Score labelling system for nutritional value on its private label products, commencing in 2020.

The discounter will initially roll out the system on convenience products, such as sandwiches, ready-to-eat salads and pre-cooked pasta or meat dishes.

After the end of the trial phase, the Nutri-Score may be extended to other product groups, the discounter said.

The decision to adopt the labelling standard fits within Aldi Suisse's commitment framework to offer consumers healthier options, as well as the 'Oggi per Domani' (Today for Tomorrow) sustainability initiative.

Informed Decisions

The Nutri-Score system, which has already been extensively tested in France, divides products into categories by assigning a letter from A to D. The indications on the packaging aim to help consumers make a more informed purchasing decision in a simpler way.

Back in 2017, the discounter reduced the percentage of sugars it added to yoghurt and cereals by 15% and 30% respectively.
