Amazon Celebrates Ten Years Of 'Frustration-Free Packaging'

Online retail giant Amazon is celebrating the tenth anniversary of its 'frustration-free' packaging programme, which aims to produce less waste than traditional packaging solutions.

Amazon has made its packaging 100% recyclable by removing plastic bindings, wire ties and clamshell casings, which is beneficial for the environment and makes boxes simpler for customers to open, according to the company.

The retailer says that these sustainable packaging innovations have eliminated 181,000 tonnes of excess packaging material since they were first introduced in 2008.

“A decade ago, we set out to invent packaging that is easy for customers to open, eliminates waste, and ensures products arrive undamaged on our customers’ doorsteps,” said Kim Houchens, director of the customer packaging experience at Amazon.

“Our certified packaging programmes, including Frustration-Free Packaging, have delighted tens of millions of customers around the globe, and we’re adding new products to these programmes every day,” Houchens continued.

The retailer's shares jumped more than 2% last week, after it captured as much as 50% of all online Black Friday sales. Amazon is now projected to capture half of the total e-commerce holiday spending growth, according to Bain & Co.
