Carrefour Celebrates Major Supplier Challenge Winners

French multinational Carrefour hosted an event last week to honour the winning projects of the 'Major Supplier Challenge' this year. The second edition of the international Carrefour competition offered its suppliers and partners an opportunity to showcase their commitment to tackle food waste. Around 3,300 companies were invited to submit a solution.

The winning projects were selected - in their respective countries - by  a panel of experts, journalists and representatives of NGOs involved in reducing food waste worldwide. Examples of waste-saving solutions included turning orange peel into essential oils in Brazil, composting avocado and mango stones in Spain and turning rice grains into savoury biscuits in Argentina.

The first edition of the challenge, which took place last year, awarded the projects which made the greatest contribution to tackling climate change and protecting the planet's biodiversity.

Carrefour aims to reduce its food waste by 50%, between now and 2025.
