Cooking Machines New Front In Portuguese Supermarket War

Lidl Portugal and Pingo Doce are launching their own cooking machines, taking on rival Continente.

The German discount chain is launching the multifunction cooking machine Monsieur Cuisine in Portugal on 12 November. The kitchen gadget, exclusively manufactured by Silvercrest, has already been rolled out by Lidl in other European markets. The suggested retail price is €229, and customers also get a recipe book.

Earlier this month, supermarket chain Pingo Doce launched its own kitchen appliance, the Chef Express.

Separately, Sonae’s hypermarket insignia, Continente, said that it plans to launch a new version of its all-in-one kitchen robot called Yämmi. At the same time, it is offering a promotion of its existing model, available at a 50% discount (for €150) until the end of the year.
