Coop Sweden Takes Saluhallen 'Market Hall' Range Online

Coop Sweden is adding its Saluhallen ('market hall') range to its online shopping portal.

Saluhallen offer a fresh range of products in an in-store, market-style setting. It includes more than 1,000 items, many of which are sourced from small local food and craft companies.

The range include fresh food such as baked goods, deli cheese and oysters, that can be ordered online at coop.se and delivered straight to a customer's door.

“Good food has so far been more associated with physical stores. With Saluhallen at coop.se, we are raising the online food market to a whole new level," said Catrin Folkesson, Business Area Director Online at Coop.

Products sold in bulk in Saluhallen are prepared in Coop’s 'dark store' in Kungens Kurva, just outside of Stockholm.

The delivery service will initially be rolled out for around two million customers in Stockholm and in Mälardalen.

Marketplace For Small Companies

Coop's Saluhallen also offers a large marketplace for a number of smaller sized and craft companies, such as speciality coffee from Lilla coffee roasters from Malmö, and craft sculptures from Soda Nation.

"We have chosen a fantastic range of everything from ice cream to fish. As in a traditional Saluhall, we will adjust the range by season and popularity. This is really a store for food lovers,” commented Staffan Fri, Assortment Developer for Coop’s Marketplace.

Coop Sweden began selling food online in 2008.

The company also offers a Smartbox service, where customers can choose recipes and a number of servings and get a ready-made package delivered to their door. This service is available to more than half of Swedish households.
